More info on the #ArtistSupportPledge

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists around the world have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support, gallery work, exhibitions and sales have disappeared. In an attempt to help alleviate some of this stress @matthewburrowsstudio has instigated the artist support pledge.

The concept is a simple one. You post images of your work to sell for no more than $200 (£200, €200, ¥20000) each (not including shipping.) Anyone can then buy the work. Every time you reach $1000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist's work for $200.

So make a pledge and post your work with the #artistsupportpledge. Stay well and live generously. #supportartists #livegenerously #artistsupportpledge

21 Years an Angel, (group exhibition), The Gallery at Gateshead Library, Prince Consort Road NE8 4LN, 31 January - 30 March, 2019

The etching,"Angel of the North' in this exhibition was produced after Robert had made several large paintings of the Angel on site. Each print from this copperplate is unique as different colour inks and inking-up methods are used.

Paintings by Robert Soden, 1992-2017

GLOBE GALLERY, 47 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, NE1 6QE.
The Late Shows Private View (all welcome) Saturday 19th May 7pm until 11pm. Exhibition ends 29 June 2018. Open Thursday-Saturday, 12-5 pm

Robert Soden makes paintings of the places that people live, work and play and is best known for his paintings of the post-industrial city. His affectionate observations of unloved areas often make the viewer take a second look and see them anew.

Leisurelands offers a glimpse of his fascination with the seasonal delights of fairs, circuses and other public events. There are paintings of the Hoppings in Newcastle, of the seafront attractions in South Shields, Houghton Feast and of Sunderland’s Winter Festival. All his paintings are made outside, in front of the subject in all weathers and seasons, he even paints at night if there is enough light. As a result the paintings are always vivid, lively and surprising.

The Leisurelands paintings show Robert’s love of the timeless and endlessly re-invented fairground attraction; their iconic forms, their daring colours and their annually updated decoration. These paintings, made over the last 25 years, chart fairground art as fashions change and new generations of punters are attracted to the thrills of the helter-skelter, the Ferris wheel and the Ghost Train.
